Mobile review by Lindsay Lee November 7, 2011 This is hands down my absolute favorite place to eat! I have never been disappointed in anything offered here, in fact, I've always been impressed! I highly recommend Veg to everyone - even the most meaty meat eaters will not be disappointed in the food!
Since I wanted to enjoy locally sourced items, I asked for a suggestion and was most happily served an outstanding Pan-seared-tofu Salad ($8.99). My plate was piled high with a colorful combination of fresh local field greens and an unexpected medley of lightly steamed bok choy, Swiss chard, and purple and green cabbage. It was adorned with perfectly crisp tofu, julienne, carrots and fresh pea sprouts dressed with a refreshing Oriental ginger dressing. The contrasting colors, flavors, textures, and temperatures of all the items in the dish kept it interesting, delicious, and sensory-pleasing to the bottom of my plate. Well, I should say to the bottom of my leftover carton, because the salad was generously portioned, and I certainly had to save room for dessert. A Good Place to Meet Friends While I was enjoying my lunch at the restaurant's counter (I left the tables for those larger than a party of one), a nice gentleman sat next to me. We started chatting and once I told him I was writing a review, he offered a bite of his Southwest Chipotle Seitan Sandwich special. Obviously unaccustomed to strangers in restaurants offering to share their meal with me, I was quickly assured by Maggie that it happens at Veg all the time. I promptly took my new friend up on his offer, and was glad I did: the day's special was delicious fresh avocado, a Seitan patty, and caramelized onions served with a chipotle aioli on fresh focaccia. Ah, now for the dessert Since my new friend was generous to share his sandwich, I in turn offered to share my not one, but two delicious vegan desserts. We both loved the Coconut Cream Pie ($3.99) and the Brownie Parfait with Coconut Milk Ice Cream ($5.49). While I still haven't decided which one I enjoyed more, I can tell you that the pie was one of the best I have ever tasted. Most assuredly, I still can't figure out how Marty and Maggie made these two dishes both dairy-free and delicious. Veg not only does it right by offering dishes that appeal to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, they also offer gluten-free dishes such as Fish Tacos, and several vegan options, including the very popular Portobello Mushroom Volcano ($11.99). Veg also has offerings just for kids on their Little Sprouts Menu, with items all kids enjoy, including organic mac n cheese and fish sticks.

The VEG Eatery is Amazing Food with Very Friendly Service Reviewed 6 March 2011 My Wife and I have eaten at "The Veg" four times a week for the past two months. Why? Because in all of Sarasota, no other restaurant serves such fantastic food without all the salt, the fat and the cholest. The Scallops nobody in this town has the quality or the size. The Smoked Amberjack, again nobody in this town even serves it. The Veg Burger, you tell me where else such an outstanding tasting, great presenation burger of this kind exists? We order glasses of Wine, unless they over fill the glass, you can 't pour anymore wine in it. I have noticed though, that nobody walks through those doors without being greeted, regardless of how packed they are. We eat both lunch and dinner and never ever have we had a single comment or complaint. I do not want the place to be bigger and lose it's incredible tasting, personal touch dishes. It reminds me of a great Eatery in Tribecca, or SOHO, the prices are excellent, and you feel like your among friends, not strangers. The water tastes unusual because they use different natural flavors every day I asked. I tell everyone about this place because there is no Vegan/Seafood restaurant like it anywhere within 50 miles. The Chef comes out of the kitchen to make sure your dish is exactly what you wanted. What other restaurant does that. I don't work there, I don't own it, I don't am not part of the place, but having lived in Sarasota for 40 years and eaten at dozens if not a hundred different restaurants, nothing compares to this place. Wonderful vegan and seafood in a great location where other attractions also are found. Reviewed 18 March 2012 NEW We've enjoyed lunch and dinner at the Veg at least 8 times in the past two years and each time we are so satisfied with the menu choices and the friendly service found in this little gem. The Ahi topped salad is great as are all the soups and other salads found on the menue. The food is artfully displayed and yet there is no pretention in the air! While in the area take a short stroll down the strip mall to the Italian Deli or go the other direction to the Scandinavian Gift and Food shops. We can spend a wonderful afternoon or morning in this area and always enjoy the Veg offerings in the midst of it all. Pick up a Danish Kringle while in the Scandinavian Gift and Food shop just down the mall from the Veg. Visited January 2012
Delicious Meal and Fabulous Service Reviewed 3 March 2012 What a delightful restaurant to find. I am both vegan and gluten-free, which adds a special challenge -- Veg is most definitely up to that challenge. They mark their gluten-free and vegan items, and are super helpful about it all. I got the cauliflower steak, which was such a unique dish and very tasty. I've never had cauliflower prepared that way (roasted until it melts in your mouth) and with marinara sauce - a winning dish. Because they serve seafood, my entire family was willing to come here, too, and everyone was happy. Updated from previous review on Saturday March 03, 2012 Visited March 2012
Interesting Reviewed 22 February 2012 The restaurant is a small place in a strip-mall. Family staff is very friendly - clientele seemed all snowbird regulars. Apparently, reservations are required - but we got in with min wait. Nice, creative vegetarian and fish entree. Snapper was delicious. Go early, as they ran out of the specials. Of course, go early and you will wait! Visited February 2012
Very good vegetarian & seafood” Reviewed 20 February 2012 We went to Veg for lunch as a change of pace from Simon's Coffee House, our standard for excellent vegetarian and vegan food, and we weren't disappointed. Veg has a diverse and inventive menu that has some nice fresh seafood options. The restaurant itself is long and narrow, with a counter, in one of those long strip malls on Gulfgate, and apparently it can be packed over lunchtime. It's also open for dinner Visited February 2012
